on-ward LBC

on-ward is a new duplex residence striving to meet the Living Building Challenge.  This 3-story urban building includes a ground floor rental apartment, four short-term rental suites on the second floor with a shared lounge, and a third floor residence for the owners.  In order to meet the net zero energy requirements, the extremely efficient building has been designed to meet the passivhaus standard.  A 17kW PV array will allow the building to be generate more energy than it consumes on an annual basis.  Rainwater catchment and composting toilets help the building approach net zero water and waste.
